Live event drones in Johnson City
This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Johnson City. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Johnson City, TN drone videographer page.
Festivals and concerts
Our crew flies EDC Las Vegas as a three-pilot drone team, with over-the-crowd drones fed into the Hulu live stream. Downtown festivals and concerts in Johnson City are flown inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
ETSU and race days
East Tennessee State University events are flown with the university's approval. Bristol Motor Speedway, to the northeast, is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.
Airspace and federal sites
Tri-Cities Airport has a control tower, so some addresses need LAANC, while Johnson City Airport has none. Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport is a federal no-drone area. In the mountains, ridgelines block line of sight and the control signal, so we pick launch points before the show. We check every Johnson City location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
Tennessee event drone law
A Tennessee law that took effect July 1, 2026 makes it a Class A misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over it, with exceptions including FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get that consent in writing before every show.

FAQs
Does Tennessee law limit drones at ticketed shows?
Yes. A state law in effect since July 1, 2026 bars flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without consent from whoever controls it, so we get written consent first.
Can you fly at Bristol Motor Speedway on event days?
Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.
Can you fly a campus event at ETSU?
Yes, with the university's approval and a flight plan agreed with the event team.
Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?
Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
