Johnson City
ETSU and events
East Tennessee State University events and downtown festivals are steady work, with the university's approval for campus flights. Bristol Motor Speedway, to the northeast, is on the FAA stadium list, so its 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies on covered event days. For games, races and concerts we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.
Downtown and businesses
Downtown Johnson City's restaurants, breweries and offices suit local brand films, filmed with the owner's approval. For interiors an indoor one-take fly-through shows the space in a single shot; see indoor fly-through tours.
Mountain real estate
Homes, land and mountain property across Washington County and the Tri-Cities are steady work. In the mountains the bigger limits are often terrain and land rules: ridgelines block line of sight and the control signal, so we pick launch points before the shoot. Most state parks need a state UAS flight permit, and national forest and park rules vary, so we check the land manager first.
Airspace
Tri-Cities Airport, between Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol, has a control tower, so some addresses need LAANC, while Johnson City Airport, 3 miles northeast, has none. Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport is a federal no-drone area. We check every Johnson City location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
