Knoxville

Neyland Stadium and UT

Neyland Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. The University of Tennessee requires its UAS coordinator's approval for any flight on campus, with the request filed at least seven days ahead. For games, concerts and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Downtown and the river

Market Square, the Old City and the Tennessee River waterfront suit hospitality and brand films, filmed with the owner's approval. For lobbies and venues an indoor one-take fly-through shows the space in a single shot; see indoor fly-through tours.

Lakes and real estate

Homes, land and new communities across Knox and nearby counties are steady work, as are lake homes in the region. In the mountains the bigger limits are often terrain and land rules: ridgelines block line of sight and the control signal, so we pick launch points before the shoot. Most state parks and natural areas need a state UAS flight permit, so we apply first.

Airspace

McGhee Tyson Airport, 10 miles south in Alcoa, has a control tower, and McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base there is a federal no-drone area. Downtown Island Airport sits 3 miles east. The Y-12 National Security Complex and Oak Ridge National Laboratory to the west are federal no-drone areas. We check every Knoxville location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Only with approval from the university UAS coordinator, filed at least seven days ahead. We handle the request with a UT sponsor.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Knoxville?

It depends on the address. McGhee Tyson Airport has a control tower, and Oak Ridge has federal no-drone areas. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Do you film lake homes near Knoxville?

Yes. Lake homes, land, new communities and commercial property across Knox and nearby counties.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
