FPV drone pilot in Knoxville

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Knoxville for sports and concert content, venue fly-throughs, river and car content and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Knoxville, TN drone videographer page.

Thompson-Boling Arena and indoor shows

Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center opened in 1987 as one of the largest arenas built for college basketball and hosts games, concerts and special events. Campus venues need university approval on top of the venue's, so we start that early. Indoor flights at the arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. See Indoor arena FPV drones and FPV drones for live broadcast.

Downtown venues and the river

Old City and Market Square venues, hotels and breweries suit one-take FPV fly-throughs flown with the owner's approval, and the Tennessee River suits low passes over boats and the waterfront launched from private docks or agreed spots. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Trips into the Smokies

Great Smoky Mountains National Park prohibits launching, landing or operating drones unless the superintendent approves it in writing, so for mountain content we film on private land outside the park, such as cabins, resorts and venues, with the owner's approval.

Tennessee drone laws

A Tennessee law that took effect July 1, 2026 makes it a Class A misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over it, with exceptions including FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get that consent in writing before every show.

FAQs

Can you fly FPV inside Thompson-Boling Arena?

Only with approval from the venue and the university, and a plan agreed with production, security and lighting.

Can you fly FPV in the Smokies?

Not inside the national park without the superintendent's written approval. We film mountain content on private land outside the park with the owner's approval.

Does Tennessee law limit drones at ticketed shows?

Yes. A state law in effect since July 1, 2026 bars flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without consent from whoever controls it, so we get written consent first.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
