Golf tournaments
Our crew flew live broadcast drone work for the T-Mobile 5G Range Show at the 2024 PGA Championship. Greensboro hosts the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, and we plan tournament work with the organizers and fly courses with the club's permission. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
The Coliseum and college games
NC A&T, UNC Greensboro and the Greensboro Coliseum Complex bring games, graduations and concerts, and each campus or venue sets its own drone rules, so we get approval first. Indoor flights at the Coliseum need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.
Parks and airspace
City rules bar drone takeoffs and landings in Greensboro parks, lakes and recreation areas except at approved events, and LeBauer Park and Center City Park need approval from their operator. Piedmont Triad International, about seven miles west of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace over much of west Greensboro, so many addresses need LAANC. We check every Greensboro location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
North Carolina rules
North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights.
