Live event drones in Chapel Hill

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Chapel Hill. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Chapel Hill, NC drone videographer page.

Kenan Stadium and UNC

Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. UNC-Chapel Hill requires a UAS Flight Approval Permit from University Police, requested at least three days ahead, for any drone flight on university property, and it bans hobby flights on campus. Kenan Stadium brings the FAA stadium flight restriction on major game days. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Franklin Street and venues

Festivals and concerts are flown inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Franklin Street's restaurants, shops and hotels suit short promos. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Airspace and state rules

Raleigh-Durham International's controlled airspace lies to the east, so some addresses near the eastern edge of the area need a check. North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights. We check every Chapel Hill location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly a UNC event?

Only with a UAS Flight Approval Permit from University Police, requested at least three days ahead.

Can you fly at Kenan Stadium on event days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.

Do you need a state permit to fly commercially in North Carolina?

No longer. The state permit law was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
