For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Wilmington, NC drone videographer page.
Festivals, concerts and productions
Our crew flew an indoor micro-drone fly-through of the Tempo by Hilton hotel in Times Square. Wilmington has long been a hub for film and TV production, and the city requires a film permit for shoots on public or private property, so we request it before the event. Riverwalk festivals and downtown concerts are flown inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
The Battleship and the beaches
The Battleship North Carolina allows drone flights only with an approved flight form, a fee and at least a week's notice. State parks such as Carolina Beach need written permission, and beach towns set their own rules for launching from public property, so we confirm before any beach event. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first.
Airspace
Wilmington International, about three miles northeast of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace over much of the city, so many addresses need LAANC. Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, to the south in Brunswick County, is a federal no-drone area. We check every Wilmington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
North Carolina rules
North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights.
