Raleigh, NC FPV Drone Pilot and Operator

FPV drone pilot in Raleigh

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Raleigh for arena and fairgrounds events, venue fly-throughs, sports content and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Raleigh, NC drone videographer page.

Dorton Arena

J.S. Dorton Arena on the State Fairgrounds was completed in 1952 and is known for its suspended, cable-supported roof, which needs no interior columns and leaves an open bowl. It seats about 5,000, or about 7,000 with portable seats, over a floor of about 25,000 square feet, and it is not air-conditioned, which matters for batteries on summer shoots. Indoor flights at the arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. See Indoor arena FPV drones and FPV drones for live broadcast.

The State Fair

The N.C. State Fair, which ran October 15 to 25, 2026, prohibits drones and other unmanned aircraft on the fairgrounds, and its media policy says drones are not allowed on State Fair property at any time in October without prior approval from the fair's chief of police or manager. We do not fly fair content without that approval in writing.

Venues, hotels and offices

Downtown hotels, breweries, restaurants and offices suit one-take FPV fly-throughs flown with the owner's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. For concerts and festivals with live feeds, see our Raleigh, NC live event drones page.

North Carolina drone rules

North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts.
