FPV drone pilot in Winston-Salem
We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Winston-Salem for campus and game day content, festival FPV, venue and office fly-throughs and brand films. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Winston-Salem, NC drone videographer page.
Festivals and concerts
Our crew flew drone coverage at Austin City Limits in Zilker Park for the festival's Hulu live broadcast. Downtown Winston-Salem and the Innovation Quarter host festivals and concerts that we fly inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Winston-Salem, NC live event drones.
Universities, Old Salem and venues
Wake Forest University and the city's other campuses bring games and graduations, and each campus sets its own drone rules, so we get approval first. Old Salem's historic district reads well from the air with the site's permission. Venues and offices suit one-take FPV tours with the owner's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.
Parks, airspace and state rules
The city has no drone-specific ordinance, so park events go through Parks and Recreation as event or facility permits. Smith Reynolds Airport, about three miles northeast of downtown, has a control tower, so much of the city is controlled airspace that needs LAANC. North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights. We check every Winston-Salem location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.
