Durham

FPV drone pilot in Durham

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Durham for campus content, lab and office fly-throughs, ballpark and festival content and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Durham, NC drone videographer page.

Downtown and the ballpark district

Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. Downtown Durham's restored tobacco warehouses, the American Tobacco Campus and the ballpark district suit FPV lines from the street into a venue, flown with the owner's approval. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Durham, NC live event drones.

Labs, offices and Duke

Research Triangle Park and Durham's lab and office campuses suit one-take fly-throughs. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. Duke University requires an approved flight request at least a week ahead for any drone flight on campus, so we file early.

Parks and airspace

City code bans flying model aircraft in Durham city parks, so we treat drones the same way and confirm with Durham Parks and Recreation first. Raleigh-Durham International is southeast of downtown, and some Durham addresses sit under its Class C airspace. The federal prison complex at Butner to the north is a federal no-drone area. We check every Durham location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

North Carolina rules

North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights.
