Wilmington

Film, TV and permits

Wilmington has long been a hub for film and TV production. The city requires a film permit for shoots on public or private property, and we request it before the shoot. For festivals, concerts and productions we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Hotels and the riverfront

Downtown hotels, restaurants and the Riverwalk suit hospitality films. An indoor one-take fly-through moves from lobby to river view in a single shot, the format we have flown for more than 15 Charleston-area hotels; see indoor fly-through tours.

The Battleship and the beaches

The Battleship North Carolina allows drone flights only with an approved flight form, a fee and at least a week's notice. State parks such as Carolina Beach need written permission, and beach towns set their own rules for launching from public property, so we confirm before any beach shoot.

Airspace

Wilmington International, about three miles northeast of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace over much of the city, so many addresses need LAANC. Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, to the south in Brunswick County, is a federal no-drone area. We check every Wilmington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
