St. Simons Island

FPV drone pilot in St. Simons Island

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in St. Simons Island for resort and inn fly-throughs, golf, weddings and brand films. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our St. Simons Island, GA drone videographer page. Our headquarters is in Augusta, so Georgia shoots are planned by our home crew.

Resorts, inns and golf

Our crew flew a one-take micro-drone fly-through of the Camp EDC campground in 2024. Beach weddings, resort hotels and the island's golf courses are the core of Golden Isles work. We film ceremonies with the venue's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Pier Village and the lighthouse

The St. Simons Lighthouse, the pier and the shops of Pier Village sit together on the south end of the island. A rise over the lighthouse toward the sound shows the setting in one move. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see St. Simons Island, GA live event drones.

Island rules, airspace and Georgia law

Jekyll Island requires Jekyll Island Authority approval for any commercial drone filming, and Fort Frederica National Monument is National Park Service land, closed to drone flights. St. Simons Island Airport and Brunswick Golden Isles Airport have no control towers, but each sits inside a Class E surface area, which is controlled airspace from the ground up and needs FAA authorization. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. State law limits how far cities and counties can write their own drone rules, but event permits, venue contracts and property owners still decide where a crew can launch, so we plan around all three. We check every Golden Isles location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly FPV at Fort Frederica?

No. Fort Frederica National Monument is National Park Service land, closed to drone flights.

Do island flights need FAA authorization?

Often. Both island-area airports sit inside a Class E surface area, which is controlled airspace from the ground up.

Can you film a ticketed show in St. Simons Island?

Yes, with the organizer's consent. Georgia law bars drone flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without it, so we get written consent first.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
