FPV drone pilot in Jekyll Island

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Jekyll Island for resort and hotel fly-throughs, historic district and wedding content, events and tourism content. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. Resorts and the historic district

Our crew flew a one-take micro-drone fly-through of the Camp EDC campground in 2024. Hotels, the historic district and beachfront venues suit FPV that moves from lobby to lawn to shoreline in one take. Jekyll Island Authority approval

Jekyll Island is a state park run by the Jekyll Island Authority, separate from the state parks division. All commercial filming on the island needs the Authority's approval in advance, even inside hotels and other businesses, which lease from the Authority. Drone flights need prior approval, FAA compliance and notice to nearby airports, and the Authority asks for a certificate of insurance of at least $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate naming it as additional insured, which our $10M policy covers. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Beaches and Georgia law

Shoots that affect the beach or dunes can also need a letter of permission from the state Department of Natural Resources, applied for weeks ahead. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. We check every Jekyll Island location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Do you need approval to fly FPV on Jekyll Island?
