Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island drone videography
We fly resorts and hotels, beach and historic district weddings, conferences, events and tourism content on Jekyll Island and across the Golden Isles. For hotels we also fly one-take indoor fly-through tours. For events and concerts we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.
Jekyll Island Authority approval
Jekyll Island is a state park run by the Jekyll Island Authority, separate from the state parks division. All commercial filming on the island needs the Authority's approval in advance, even inside hotels and other businesses, which lease from the Authority. Drone flights need prior approval, FAA compliance and notice to nearby airports, and the Authority asks for a certificate of insurance of at least $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate naming it as additional insured, which our $10M policy covers.
Beaches and the Golden Isles airspace
Shoots that affect the beach or dunes can also need a letter of permission from the state Department of Natural Resources, applied for weeks ahead. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. Jekyll Island Airport and the airports on St. Simons Island and in Brunswick have no control tower, and we still notify them as the Authority requires. We check every Jekyll Island location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
Georgia drone law
A Georgia law in effect since April 1, 2025 makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a ticketed entertainment event without the consent of whoever controls the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully, so we get the organizer's consent in writing. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

FAQs
Do you need permission to fly on Jekyll Island?
Yes. The Jekyll Island Authority must approve commercial filming and drone flights in advance, including inside hotels and businesses on the island.
What insurance does the Jekyll Island Authority ask for?
At least $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate, naming the Authority as additional insured. Our $10M policy meets that.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in Jekyll Island?
It depends on the address. The nearby airports have no control tower, but we still notify them as the Authority requires. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
Can you film weddings in the historic district?
Yes, once the Authority and the venue approve. We keep guests who have not agreed to be filmed out of frame.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
