Live event drones in Jekyll Island

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Jekyll Island. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Jekyll Island, GA drone videographer page. Our headquarters is in Augusta, so Georgia shoots are planned by our home crew.

Resorts, conferences and weddings

Our crew flew FPV over Kinetic Field at EDC Orlando in 2022. We fly resorts and hotels, beach and historic district weddings, conferences, events and tourism content on Jekyll Island and across the Golden Isles. For events and concerts we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Jekyll Island Authority approval

Jekyll Island is a state park run by the Jekyll Island Authority, separate from the state parks division. All commercial filming on the island needs the Authority's approval in advance, even inside hotels and other businesses, which lease from the Authority. Drone flights need prior approval, FAA compliance and notice to nearby airports, and the Authority asks for a certificate of insurance of at least $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate naming it as additional insured, which our $10M policy covers. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Beaches, airspace and Georgia law

Shoots that affect the beach or dunes can also need a letter of permission from the state Department of Natural Resources, applied for weeks ahead. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. Jekyll Island Airport has no control tower, and we still notify it as the Authority requires. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. We check every Jekyll Island location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Do you need approval to film an event on Jekyll Island?

Yes. All commercial filming on the island needs the Jekyll Island Authority's approval in advance, even inside hotels and other businesses.

What insurance does the Authority ask for?

At least $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate naming it as additional insured, which our $10M policy covers.

Can you film a ticketed show in Jekyll Island?

Yes, with the organizer's consent. Georgia law bars drone flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without it, so we get written consent first.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
