Live event drones in St. Simons Island

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in St. Simons Island. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our St. Simons Island, GA drone videographer page. Our headquarters is in Augusta, so Georgia shoots are planned by our home crew.

Resort, golf and wedding events

Our crew flew live broadcast drone work for the T-Mobile 5G Range Show at the 2024 PGA Championship. Beach weddings, resort hotels and the island's golf courses are the core of Golden Isles work. We film ceremonies with the venue's approval. For festivals and resort events we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Pier Village, Brunswick and Jekyll Island

The St. Simons Lighthouse, the pier and the shops of Pier Village sit together on the south end of the island. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. Jekyll Island requires Jekyll Island Authority approval for any commercial drone filming, and Fort Frederica National Monument is National Park Service land, closed to drone flights.

Golden Isles airspace and Georgia law

St. Simons Island Airport and Brunswick Golden Isles Airport have no control towers, but each sits inside a Class E surface area, which is controlled airspace from the ground up and needs FAA authorization. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. State law limits how far cities and counties can write their own drone rules, but event permits, venue contracts and property owners still decide where a crew can launch, so we plan around all three. We check every Golden Isles location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly an event on Jekyll Island?

Only with Jekyll Island Authority approval, which it requires for any commercial drone filming.

Do island event flights need FAA authorization?

Often. Both island-area airports sit inside a Class E surface area, which is controlled airspace from the ground up.

Can you film a ticketed show in St. Simons Island?

Yes, with the organizer's consent. Georgia law bars drone flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without it, so we get written consent first.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
