St. Petersburg
FPV drone pilot in St. Petersburg
We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in St. Petersburg for race weekend content, museum and hotel fly-throughs, waterfront events and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our St. Petersburg, FL drone videographer page.
Grand Prix content
Our crew flew drones down the Las Vegas Strip and around the F1 cars at the 2022 Las Vegas Grand Prix launch party. The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is on the FAA stadium and event list, so the 3 nautical mile restriction applies around the downtown street course on covered event days, and we fly race FPV only inside an approved production. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
Museums, the Pier and hotels
The downtown waterfront, the museums, the St. Pete Pier and the hotels suit FPV fly-throughs, flown from private property with the owner's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. For event coverage see St. Petersburg, FL live event drones.
Parks and Florida law
Florida state parks prohibit drone takeoff and landing on park land, so we launch from outside the park. County parks such as Fort De Soto set their own rules. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. Florida Statute 330.41 bars drone flights over critical infrastructure such as substations, water plants, seaports, airports and military sites unless the flight is a commercial one that follows FAA rules or the owner consents in writing, and it bars flights over K-12 schools, so we plan routes around both.
Airspace
Albert Whitted Airport on the downtown waterfront has a control tower, St. Pete-Clearwater International 8 miles north is towered, and Tampa Class B airspace covers much of the bay, so many addresses need LAANC. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is a federal no-drone area. We check every St. Petersburg location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly FPV at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg?
Only inside the approved production. The race is on the FAA stadium and event list, so the 3 nautical mile restriction applies on covered event days.
Are there Florida laws on where drones can fly?
Yes. Florida law bars flights over critical infrastructure such as substations, seaports and military sites unless the flight is a commercial one that follows FAA rules or the owner consents, and it bars flights over K-12 schools.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in St. Petersburg?
It depends on the address. Albert Whitted Airport has a control tower and Tampa Class B covers much of the bay. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?
Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
