St. Petersburg
Grand Prix and events
The Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is on the FAA stadium and event list, so the 3 nautical mile restriction applies around the downtown street course on covered event days. For races, concerts and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.
Downtown and the waterfront
The downtown waterfront, the museums, the St. Pete Pier and the hotels suit tourism and brand films, filmed from private property with the owner's approval. For lobbies and venues an indoor one-take fly-through shows the space in a single shot; see indoor fly-through tours.
Beaches and parks
St. Pete Beach, Pass-a-Grille and the Gulf beach towns suit resort and real estate films. Caladesi Island, Honeymoon Island and Egmont Key are state parks: Florida state parks prohibit drone takeoff and landing on park land, so we launch from outside the park. County parks such as Fort De Soto set their own rules. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. Florida Statute 330.41 bars drone flights over critical infrastructure such as substations, water plants, seaports, airports and military sites unless the flight is a commercial one that follows FAA rules or the owner consents in writing, and it bars flights over K-12 schools, so we plan routes around both.
Airspace
Albert Whitted Airport on the downtown waterfront has a control tower, St. Pete-Clearwater International 8 miles north is towered, and Tampa Class B airspace covers much of the bay, so many addresses need LAANC. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater is a federal no-drone area. We check every St. Petersburg location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly downtown during the Grand Prix?
Not inside the FAA restriction around the street course on covered event days. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.
Can you fly near Albert Whitted Airport?
Only with FAA authorization. The airport sits on the downtown waterfront with a control tower, so we file LAANC for the exact site and altitude.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in St. Petersburg?
It depends on the address. Albert Whitted and St. Pete-Clearwater both have control towers. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
Can you launch from a state park beach?
No. Florida state parks prohibit drone takeoff and landing, so we launch from private property or other approved spots.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
