Destin

Destin airspace

Destin Executive Airport, 1 mile east of town, has a control tower, and the airport says its Class D airspace covers Destin to the Walton County line, all the beaches and Crab Island, so nearly every shoot needs FAA authorization. Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport at Eglin is towered too. We check every Destin location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Eglin and Hurlburt

Eglin Air Force Base, Hurlburt Field and Duke Field are federal no-drone areas, and Eglin's restricted airspace covers much of the county, so we plan launch points well clear of them. Florida Statute 330.41 bars drone flights over critical infrastructure such as substations, water plants, seaports, airports and military sites unless the flight is a commercial one that follows FAA rules or the owner consents in writing, and it bars flights over K-12 schools, so we plan routes around both.

Beaches and parks

Henderson Beach is a state park, as is Grayton Beach to the east: Florida state parks prohibit drone takeoff and landing on park land, so we launch from outside the park. The Okaloosa Island area of Gulf Islands National Seashore is National Park Service land, which bans drone launches without the superintendent's written approval. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first.

Resorts, rentals and weddings

Beach resorts, condos, vacation rentals, Crab Island boating and weddings are steady work, filmed with the owner's approval. For condos and lobbies an indoor one-take fly-through shows the space in a single shot; see indoor fly-through tours. For events and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

FAQs

Do you need FAA approval to fly on Destin beaches?

Almost always. Destin Executive Airport's Class D airspace covers the beaches and Crab Island, so we file authorization for each site.

Can you fly near Eglin Air Force Base?

No. Eglin, Hurlburt Field and Duke Field are federal no-drone areas, and Eglin's restricted airspace covers much of the county.

Can you launch at Henderson Beach State Park?

No. Florida state parks prohibit drone takeoff and landing, so we launch from private property or other approved spots.

Do you film vacation rentals and condos in Destin?

Yes. Exterior aerials with FAA authorization and indoor one-take fly-throughs, with the owner's approval.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
