Bloomington
College game days and campus
Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We fly live drone feeds to the Davis Wade Stadium video boards for Mississippi State football, and we can bring the same setup to a Big Ten venue with the university's approval. For concerts, festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.
Lakes, forests and wilderness
Monroe Lake and Brown County State Park are Indiana DNR properties. Indiana DNR properties, including state parks, reservoirs and state forests, ban drones except at designated sites, and the DNR grants licenses to launch and film only occasionally, so we contact the property manager well ahead. The Charles C. Deam Wilderness in Hoosier National Forest is designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land.
NSA Crane and Indiana law
Naval Support Activity Crane, about 25 miles southwest, is a federal no-drone area, and its restricted airspace starts at the surface. Indiana law makes it a crime to use a drone to interfere with police, firefighters or emergency crews, or to film people in private places without their consent, so we keep private spaces out of frame. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.
Airspace
Monroe County Airport, about 4 miles southwest of downtown, has a control tower, so some Bloomington addresses need LAANC. We check every Bloomington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly near Memorial Stadium on game days?
Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.
Can you fly at Monroe Lake?
Only at a DNR-designated site or with a DNR license to launch and film. Indiana DNR properties otherwise ban drones.
Can you fly near NSA Crane?
No. Crane is a federal no-drone area, and its restricted airspace starts at the surface, so we plan shoots well outside it.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in Bloomington?
It depends on the address. Monroe County Airport has a control tower. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
