Bowling Green

Campus, motorsport and brand films

Western Kentucky University, the National Corvette Museum, Beech Bend and the city's industrial parks suit campus, event, brand and construction films, filmed with the owner's approval. Our crew filmed aerials of The Independent, the Austin tower known as the Jenga building, for Science Channel's Impossible Engineering. For races, concerts and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Mammoth Cave and parks

Mammoth Cave National Park, about 30 miles northeast, is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. Kentucky State Parks require a drone permit from the park manager, with an FAA certificate and liability insurance, and commercial shoots need the Department of Parks' written consent, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. We also flew live broadcast drone work for the T-Mobile 5G Range Show at the 2024 PGA Championship in Louisville; read the PGA Championship case study.

Kentucky law

Kentucky law makes it a crime to fly a drone over power plants, refineries, rail yards, water plants, prisons, cell towers and other key infrastructure to harm or surveil them, and to fly over or record food processing plants or livestock feeding operations without the owner's consent. FAA-compliant commercial flights are exempt, but we still get the owner's consent before filming any of those sites. Kentucky law also bars recording people or private property in a way that violates a reasonable expectation of privacy, so we keep neighbors and private yards out of frame unless they agree to be filmed. Fort Campbell, to the west near Hopkinsville, is a federal no-drone area with restricted airspace from the surface.

Airspace

Bowling Green-Warren County Regional, about 2 miles southeast of downtown, has no control tower, but the FAA publishes a drone altitude grid around it, so we check whether each address needs LAANC. We check every Bowling Green location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly at Mammoth Cave National Park?

Not without the superintendent's written approval. Launching or landing a drone on National Park Service land is otherwise prohibited, so we launch from legal sites outside the park.

Can you film the Corvette Museum or Beech Bend?

Yes, with the venue's approval, and with crowd and event rules agreed ahead of time. We check FAA authorization and NOTAMs for each date.

Can you fly drones in Kentucky state parks?

Only with a drone permit from the park manager, and commercial shoots also need written consent from the Department of Parks. We apply well ahead with our FAA certificate and insurance.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Bowling Green?

It depends on the address. Bowling Green-Warren County Regional has no control tower, but parts of the city still need LAANC. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
