Dayton

Wright-Patterson AFB

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, including the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force grounds, is a federal no-drone area around the clock in Greene and Montgomery counties. LAANC is not available at the base airfield, so addresses in its airspace need a separate FAA authorization. The Springfield-Beckley Air National Guard sites in Clark County are federal no-drone areas too.

Campuses, industry and events

Campuses, arenas, manufacturers and new developments around Dayton suit event, brand and construction films, filmed with the owner's approval. Our crew flies live drone feeds to the Davis Wade Stadium video boards for Mississippi State football, and filmed aerials of The Independent, the Austin tower known as the Jenga building, for Science Channel's Impossible Engineering. For concerts, festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Ohio law and parks

Ohio law, in effect since April 2025, makes it a crime to fly in violation of FAA rules, to get in the way of police, firefighters or emergency crews, or to photograph or loiter over a critical facility, such as a power plant, water plant, rail yard, jail, military site or a hospital with an air ambulance, to further a crime. We keep those sites out of the shot unless the owner asks us to film them. Ohio lets cities, counties and park districts set drone rules for their own parks and property, so we check park and event permits before any public-space shoot. Ohio state parks prohibit drones without permission from the Division of Parks and Watercraft, except at designated airfields, and ban flights over beaches, crowds, boats and roads, so we ask well ahead of any state park shoot. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

Dayton International, about 9 miles north of downtown, has Class C airspace, and Wright-Patterson's airfield sits to the east, so many Dayton addresses need FAA authorization. We check every Dayton location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly near Wright-Patterson Air Force Base?

Not over the base, which is a federal no-drone area. LAANC is not available at its airfield, so nearby addresses need a separate FAA authorization.

Can you film the Air Force museum?

Not from the air. The museum grounds are part of Wright-Patterson, a federal no-drone area, so we film only from legal sites outside the base.

Can you fly drones in Ohio state parks?

Only with permission from the Division of Parks and Watercraft or at a designated airfield. Flights over beaches, crowds, boats and roads are banned, so we ask well ahead of any shoot.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Dayton?

It depends on the address. Dayton International has Class C airspace, and Wright-Patterson's airfield has no LAANC. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
