The park and canal corridor have their own rules, so we clear the launch spot and timing in advance. Washington Road businesses and venues

Along Washington Road and Columbia Road, grand openings, dealership events and venue nights suit a storefront reveal and a parking-lot-to-lobby fly-through. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Daniel Field airspace and Georgia law

Parts of Martinez fall under the controlled airspace around Daniel Field, close to the Augusta border, so some addresses need FAA authorization before an outdoor flight. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. State law limits how far cities and counties can write their own drone rules, but event permits, venue contracts and property owners still decide where a crew can launch, so we plan around all three. Usually, once the park approves a launch area and a time. We plan the line so the aircraft stays clear of people on the towpath.

Does Martinez need FAA authorization?

Parts of it do, closer to Daniel Field. We check each address and get authorization through LAANC when needed.

Can you film a ticketed show in Martinez?

Yes, with the organizer's consent. Georgia law bars drone flights within 400 feet of a gated ticketed event without it, so we get written consent first.
