The historic district and Lake Sinclair
Milledgeville was Georgia's capital from 1804 to 1868, and its historic district still holds the Old Governor's Mansion, completed in 1839 and now a museum on the Georgia College campus. Flights over the mansion and campus are planned with the college. Lake Sinclair, a Georgia Power reservoir north of town, and nearby Lake Oconee drive the region's lakefront real estate. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Milledgeville airspace and Georgia law
Baldwin County Regional Airport, north of the city, has no control tower. Georgia law makes it a misdemeanor to fly within 400 feet of or above a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without consent from whoever has authority over the event, with an exception for FAA-authorized operators flying lawfully. We get the organizer's consent in writing anyway, because the venue and promoter control launch spots and crowd areas. State law limits how far cities and counties can write their own drone rules, but event permits, venue contracts and property owners still decide where a crew can launch, so we plan around all three. We check every Milledgeville location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.
