Wilmington
FPV drone pilot in Wilmington
We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Wilmington for film and TV work, riverfront festivals, hotel and venue fly-throughs and brand films. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Wilmington, NC drone videographer page.
Film, TV and productions
Our crew filmed aerials of The Independent, the Austin tower known as the Jenga building, for Science Channel's Impossible Engineering. Wilmington has long been a hub for film and TV production, and the city requires a film permit for shoots on public or private property, so we request it before the shoot. Hotels and venues suit one-take FPV with the owner's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.
Riverwalk festivals and the beaches
Riverwalk festivals and downtown concerts are flown inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. The Battleship North Carolina allows drone flights only with an approved flight form, a fee and at least a week's notice. Beach shoots add their own limits: crowds, launch spots and sea turtle and shorebird nesting closures, so we check local rules and posted signs first. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Wilmington, NC live event drones.
Airspace and state rules
Wilmington International, about three miles northeast of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace over much of the city, so many addresses need LAANC. Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, to the south in Brunswick County, is a federal no-drone area. North Carolina no longer requires a separate state permit for commercial drone pilots, since the state law requiring one was repealed effective December 1, 2024, so FAA Part 107 certification is the credential that counts. North Carolina state parks need written permission or a special use permit for drone flights. We check every Wilmington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.
