FPV drone pilot in New York

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in New York City for arena and theater shows, hotel and venue fly-throughs, brand launches and live feeds. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our New York drone videography page.

Arenas, theaters and indoor work

Much of the FPV work in New York happens indoors: arenas such as Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center, theaters, hotels, showrooms and event spaces, where small cinewhoops fly one-take moves close to the action. Indoor flights at an arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

The NYPD drone permit

New York City rules adopted by the NYPD, in effect since July 21, 2023, created a permit process for drone takeoffs and landings, which city law otherwise restricts to a few designated sites. Applications go through the NYPD permit portal at least 30 days ahead, with a $150 non-refundable fee as of late 2026, rain dates, a Part 107 pilot and insurance naming the City of New York as additional insured, and the permit and documents must be carried on site. City parks, state parks, federal sites, the MTA and the Port Authority each need their own permission, and a city film permit is needed when a shoot uses city property or city help. We build the permit timeline into every quote.

Stadiums, airspace and outdoor shows

Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Most of the five boroughs sit under the Class B airspace around JFK and LaGuardia, so nearly every outdoor address needs LAANC or FAA authorization. Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, and we plan outdoor shows with the promoter and venue first. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. We check every New York location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

New York drone rules

New York State Parks require a prior written permit to launch, land or fly a drone on park property, and commercial filming goes through the State Parks film permit process.

FAQs

Do you need an NYPD permit to fly a drone in New York City?

For takeoffs and landings in the city, yes, in most cases. We apply through the NYPD permit portal at least 30 days ahead with insurance naming the City of New York.

Can you fly FPV inside Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center?

Only with the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and lighting. We fly small, lightweight drones close to the action.

Can you fly near Yankee Stadium or Citi Field on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
