Federal sites and Liberty State Park

The Statue of Liberty, across the harbor from Jersey City, is a federal no-drone area around the clock, and Picatinny Arsenal in Morris County is one too. New Jersey state parks prohibit drones unless specifically approved, recreational flights are not considered, and commercial shoots at Liberty State Park need a policy waiver and a special use permit from the park superintendent.

New Jersey law

New Jersey law makes it an offense to fly a drone in a way that endangers people or property, and a crime to interfere with first responders or to endanger or surveil a correctional facility, and it overrides inconsistent county and city drone rules for private use. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed. Park, street and event permits come from the city and the event organizer, so we check them before any public-space shoot.

Airspace

Newark Liberty International, about 3 miles south of downtown Newark, has Class B airspace, and the New York-area Class B and Teterboro's control tower cover most of North Jersey, so most Newark and Jersey City addresses need LAANC or other FAA authorization. We check every Newark location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Can you fly near MetLife Stadium on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can you fly drones in New Jersey state parks?

Only with specific approval. State parks generally prohibit drones, and commercial shoots at Liberty State Park need a policy waiver and a special use permit from the superintendent.

Can you fly near the Statue of Liberty?

No. The Statue of Liberty is a federal no-drone area from the surface to 400 feet, so we frame harbor shots from well outside it.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Newark?

It depends on the address. Newark Liberty International has Class B airspace, and Teterboro Airport has a control tower. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
