Concerts, festivals and game days

Fenway Park, Harvard Stadium, Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill and Gillette Stadium in Foxborough are on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Our crew flies EDC Las Vegas as a three-pilot drone team with over-the-crowd drones fed into the Hulu live stream, and flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens; see New York drone videography. For concerts, festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Federal sites and state parks

Boston National Historical Park sites, including the Charlestown Navy Yard and Bunker Hill, are federal no-drone areas around the clock, and Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford is one too. Massachusetts has no statewide drone statute, but DCR rules bar drone takeoffs and landings on state parks, beaches and reservations, including the Charles River Reservation, without a special use permit, and DCR film permits need a certificate of insurance naming DCR.

City permits

Drone photography is not allowed on Boston Common, the Public Garden or the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, according to the Friends of the Public Garden, and other city locations need a permit from the City of Boston film office. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

Logan International, about a mile east of downtown, has Class B airspace over nearly all of Boston, and Hanscom Field in Bedford has its own control tower, so most Boston addresses need LAANC or other FAA authorization. We check every Boston location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Can you fly near Fenway Park on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can you fly drones on Boston Common?

No. Drone photography is not allowed on Boston Common, the Public Garden or the Commonwealth Avenue Mall, so we pick other locations with the owner's approval.

Can you fly in Massachusetts state parks?
