Live event drones in New York

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in New York City. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our New York drone videography page.

Forest Hills Stadium and outdoor shows

Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, working inside the festival's production plan. Outdoor concerts, street fairs and brand activations across the boroughs are planned the same way, with the promoter, the venue and every landowner agreeing launch spots first. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

The NYPD permit timeline

City law limits drone takeoffs and landings to a few designated sites, and since July 21, 2023 NYPD rules have offered a permit for other locations. We file through the NYPD permit portal at least 30 days before show day, with a $150 non-refundable fee as of late 2026, rain dates, a Part 107 pilot and insurance naming the City of New York as additional insured, and the permit travels with the crew. City parks, state parks, federal sites, the MTA and the Port Authority each grant their own permission, and a city film permit applies when the shoot uses city property or city help.

Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center and the ballparks

Madison Square Garden, Barclays Center and the city's theaters host indoor shows where we fly with the venue's approval. Indoor flights at an arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Yankee Stadium and Citi Field are on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Most of the boroughs also sit under the Class B airspace around JFK and LaGuardia. We check every New York location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. New York State rules

New York State Parks require a prior written permit to launch, land or fly a drone on park property, and commercial filming goes through the State Parks film permit process.
