Live event drones in Louisville

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Louisville. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Louisville, KY drone videographer page.

Highland Festival Grounds

Louder Than Life and Bourbon and Beyond are held each September at the Highland Festival Grounds at the Kentucky Expo Center, next to the city's main airport, so festival flights there need airspace authorization on top of the promoter's production plan. Our crew has flown live broadcast and FPV drone coverage at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and plans festival work the same way. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

KFC Yum! Center and the football stadium

The KFC Yum! Center downtown hosts concerts and games where we fly with the venue's approval. Indoor flights at the arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. L and N Federal Credit Union Stadium, home of Louisville football, is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Churchill Downs and Derby week

For Derby 2026, Kentucky State Police announced that the airspace over Churchill Downs was closed to drones from Thursday through Saturday, enforced with the Department of Homeland Security and Louisville Metro Police. We plan Derby week events around closures like that and check NOTAMs for each date. We check every Louisville location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

State and local rules

We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly a drone at Churchill Downs during Derby week?

No. For Derby 2026, Kentucky State Police closed the airspace over the track to drones from Thursday through Saturday, so we plan around those dates.

Can you fly at Louder Than Life or Bourbon and Beyond?

Only inside the festival's production plan and with airspace authorization, since the Highland Festival Grounds sit next to the airport.

Can you fly at a concert inside the KFC Yum! Center?

Only with the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and lighting. We fly small, lightweight drones close to the action.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
