Live event drones in Lexington

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Lexington. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Lexington, KY drone videographer page.

College game days

Kroger Field is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. For in-stadium work we fly live drone feeds to college stadium video boards, and we can bring the same setup to a Bluegrass venue with the school's approval. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Concerts, festivals and horse country

Our crew flies EDC Las Vegas as a three-pilot drone team, with over-the-crowd drones fed into the Hulu live stream, and Lexington concerts and festivals are planned the same way. Events at horse farms and estates are flown only with the owner's approval and with horses kept calm and at a distance. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

Federal sites and Kentucky law

The federal medical prison in Lexington and the Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County are federal no-drone areas around the clock. Kentucky law makes it a crime to fly a drone over power plants, refineries, rail yards, water plants, prisons, cell towers and other key infrastructure to harm or surveil them. FAA-compliant commercial flights are exempt, but we still get the owner's consent before filming any of those sites. Kentucky State Parks require a drone permit from the park manager, and commercial shoots need the Department of Parks' written consent.

Airspace

Blue Grass Airport, about 4 miles west of downtown, has Class C airspace, so many Lexington addresses need LAANC. We check every Lexington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.
