Charleston, SC Live Event and Concert Drones

Live event drones in Charleston

This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Charleston. We fly concerts, festivals, tournaments, parades and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck. Our Charleston drone videography page covers our hotel fly-through work; this page covers live events.

Credit One Stadium and the Coliseum

Credit One Stadium on Daniel Island seats up to about 11,000 for concerts after its 2022 renovation, and the North Charleston Coliseum lists a concert capacity of about 13,000. Outdoor stadium shows need the venue's approval for any flight. Indoor flights at the Coliseum need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action.

Festivals and city permits

Charleston hosts festivals such as Spoleto Festival USA each spring, and many events run in city parks and streets under city special event permits applied for well ahead. Park and event permits set their own rules, so we confirm drone use with the organizer and the city before quoting. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

Airspace and military sites

Charleston International Airport shares its runways with Joint Base Charleston, and much of the area sits in controlled airspace. A South Carolina law, Act 150, set to take effect January 1, 2027, makes it a crime to knowingly fly within 1,500 feet of a military installation or a prison or jail without written permission, so we plan routes around those sites. We check every Charleston location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly at Credit One Stadium or the North Charleston Coliseum?

Only with the venue's approval. Outdoor stadium shows and indoor coliseum flights both need a plan agreed with production and security.

Do South Carolina laws limit where drones can fly near Charleston?

Yes. A state law set to take effect January 1, 2027 bars knowingly flying within 1,500 feet of a military installation, prison or jail without written permission.

Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?

Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.

Do you need a city permit for a Charleston event?

Often, for events on city property. Park and street events run under city special event permits, so we confirm drone use with the organizer and the city first.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
