New Orleans

FPV drone pilot in New Orleans

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in New Orleans for festivals, brand pop-ups, arena and dome events, venue fly-throughs and live feeds. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our New Orleans drone videography page.

Bourbon Street and the French Quarter

Our crew flew drone content for the John Summit and Dom Dolla Super Bowl week pop-up on Bourbon Street. French Quarter work runs through the city's film office, which asks productions to use a drone no more than 3 feet in diameter in the French Quarter, and we plan each line around crowds, balconies and narrow streets. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.

Film New Orleans drone permits

Film New Orleans issues B-roll film permits at no cost for drone filming. Productions must use FAA-certified drone operators who follow FAA rules, submit the operator's FAA license and the drone's FAA registration, and provide a certificate of insurance and a signed copy of the office's policies and procedures, with the film application filed no later than 4 days before filming. We check every New Orleans location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Caesars Superdome, Smoothie King Center and festivals

Caesars Superdome, home of the Saints, and Smoothie King Center, home of the Pelicans, do not allow drones on their property without management's prior written permission, so indoor FPV there happens only as part of an approved production. Indoor flights at an arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Caesars Superdome is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Festivals such as Jazz Fest at the Fair Grounds run under the promoter's production plan. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.

Local rules

We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job. Parade and festival dates bring their own event permits and crowd plans, so we confirm them with the organizer.

FAQs

Do you need a permit to fly a drone in New Orleans?

For filming, yes. Film New Orleans issues free B-roll permits for drone filming and asks for the operator's FAA license, the drone's registration and insurance.

Can you fly a drone in the French Quarter?

With a film permit and a careful flight plan. The film office asks for a drone no more than 3 feet in diameter there, and we keep clear of open crowds.

Can you fly FPV inside Caesars Superdome?

Only with management's prior written permission as part of an approved production, with a flight plan agreed with production, security and lighting.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.
