Baton Rouge

FPV drone pilot in Baton Rouge

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Baton Rouge for game day content, festival FPV, venue fly-throughs and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Baton Rouge, LA drone videographer page.

Game days and LSU

Our crew flew five days of live coverage, live to FOX, at the FIFA Fan Festival Atlanta. Tiger Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. LSU prohibits drones on campus, including game days and its parking lots, unless the university approves the flight. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Baton Rouge, LA live event drones.

Festivals, parades and venues

Downtown, the riverfront and Mid City host festivals and parades. Louisiana law bars flying a drone over a permitted parade or parade route, including Mardi Gras parades, unless the flight is for an authorized film or TV production. Venues, hotels and restaurants suit one-take fly-throughs. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Plants and Louisiana law

The refineries and chemical plants along the river fall under state law. Unless a flight complies with FAA rules, Louisiana law makes it a crime to record refineries, chemical plants, schools, ports, pipelines or other critical infrastructure without the owner's written consent, to fly over a jail without permission, or to record a military site without the commander's consent; flying over fenced critical infrastructure without authority is a separate crime, so we get written consent first or keep those sites out of the shot.

Airspace

Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport has a control tower, so many addresses need LAANC, and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve site in Iberville Parish is a federal no-drone area. We check every Baton Rouge location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
