Lafayette
FPV drone pilot in Lafayette
We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Lafayette for festival FPV, Mardi Gras season content, venue fly-throughs and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Lafayette, LA drone videographer page.
Festivals and Mardi Gras season
Our crew flew FPV over Kinetic Field at EDC Orlando in 2022. Downtown Lafayette's festivals, concerts and Mardi Gras season suit the same close, fast moves inside the organizer's plan. Louisiana law bars flying a drone over a permitted parade or parade route, including Mardi Gras parades, unless the flight is for an authorized film or TV production. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Lafayette, LA live event drones.
UL Lafayette and venues
Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We get the university's approval before any flight on campus. Restaurants, dance halls and venues suit one-take fly-throughs. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.
Federal sites and parks
A Marine Forces Reserve site in Lafayette is a federal no-drone area. The Acadian Cultural Center, part of Jean Lafitte National Historical Park, is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. We check every Lafayette location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
Energy sites and Louisiana law
Unless a flight complies with FAA rules, Louisiana law makes it a crime to record refineries, chemical plants, schools, ports, pipelines or other critical infrastructure without the owner's written consent, to fly over a jail without permission, or to record a military site without the commander's consent; flying over fenced critical infrastructure without authority is a separate crime, so we get written consent first or keep those sites out of the shot.
