ABOUT OUR NEW ORLEANS WORK

New Orleans Drone Videography and Live Broadcast

On February 8, 2025, the day before Super Bowl LIX, Air Views Media flew drone content for John Summit and Dom Dolla's pop-up DJ set on Bourbon Street. The French Quarter sat inside the FAA's Super Bowl drone restriction that day, and we flew with permission. Restricted-airspace work like that is a nationwide skill for us, not a local one, and it's what we bring to New Orleans events, festivals, broadcasts and productions. We're based in Augusta, GA, and our crews take jobs in any US city. We fly concerts and festivals, live aerial broadcast, FPV cinematography, stadium video-board feeds and micro-drone fly-through tours. If your event is inside a security restriction, in the French Quarter or on a parade route, tell us the event and the date and we'll start the approvals early. Read the Bourbon Street case study or see every city we fly.

A Bourbon Street set during Super Bowl week

John Summit and Dom Dolla played a surprise back-to-back set from a balcony over Bourbon Street, and we flew drone content for the pop-up. The FAA had declared a No Drone Zone for 1.5 nautical miles around Lafayette Square, up to 2,000 feet, on set days and hours through Super Bowl week. On February 8 it ran from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. and covered the French Quarter. Flying there was only legal with permission, and we had it.

It sits next to our other high-security work. At the FIFA World Cup 2026 Fan Festival in Atlanta, we flew five days of live coverage to FOX inside a federal flight restriction, after clearing permissions with more than seven organizations.

Airspace, permits and parade rules in New Orleans

Louis Armstrong New Orleans International (MSY) has Class B airspace over much of the metro. Downtown and riverfront flights need FAA authorization for the exact site and altitude.

In the city, drone filming goes through Film New Orleans. Drone permits are free, but the operator's FAA certificate and the drone's registration have to be filed, and the Film Office asks that drones flown in the French Quarter be no more than three feet across. Louisiana law makes it a crime to fly a drone over a permitted parade or parade route, including Mardi Gras parades, unless the flight is for an authorized film or TV production. The Superdome falls under the FAA's standing stadium restriction during Saints and major college football games.

How we work a restricted New Orleans event

In a security restriction, the flying is the easy part. The work starts days earlier with the approvals, a filed flight plan, and a crew list and aircraft list that match the permission. For festivals and street events we bring over-crowd FPV drones, a cinema drone for the wide shots, feeds cabled to the truck if there's a live show, and a content team in parallel if you want edits the same day. More on concert and festival drones.

Waivers and broadcast setup

Air Views Media is run by Clark Lupton, an FAA Part 107 certified pilot since 2017. Our FAA Part 107 remote pilots operate under FAA waivers for flight over people (§107.39), over moving vehicles (§107.145), multiple aircraft (§107.35), beyond visual line of sight (§107.31), operation from a moving vehicle (§107.25) and operating limitations (§107.51). For live shows, our setup puts a COFDM camera transmitter on a micro FPV drone carrying a PROTON 4K FLEX camera, so the truck can shade it (iris, color, exposure) through Cyanview like any other camera, with feeds cabled into the truck. See our FPV live broadcast setup and FAA waiver consulting.

New Orleans drone questions

Have you flown in New Orleans?

Yes. We flew drone content for John Summit and Dom Dolla's pop-up DJ set on Bourbon Street on February 8, 2025, during Super Bowl LIX week, with permission inside the FAA's Super Bowl drone restriction.

Can you fly a drone in the French Quarter?

Yes, with an FAA airspace authorization and a Film New Orleans drone permit. The Film Office asks that drones in the French Quarter be no more than three feet across. During big events, extra security restrictions can apply.

Can drones fly over Mardi Gras parades?

Louisiana law bans drone flights over permitted parades and parade routes, including Mardi Gras, unless the flight is for an authorized film or TV production. We only fly parades with that authorization in place.

Can you fly at the Superdome?

Inside the dome, flights are planned with the venue. Outside, Saints and major college games carry the FAA's standing stadium restriction, and events like the Super Bowl add security restrictions. Flights need approval either way.

Do you cover Jazz Fest or Essence Fest?

We haven't worked them yet, but they fit our festival setup: over-crowd FPV drones under our §107.39 waiver, cinema drones for the wides and feeds cabled to the broadcast truck. Our festival credits include EDC Las Vegas, Austin City Limits and Outside Lands.

Are you based in New Orleans?

No. We're based in Augusta, GA, with a second location in Lynchburg, VA, and we travel to New Orleans for events, broadcasts and productions.
