Lexington, KY FPV Drone Pilot and Operator

FPV drone pilot in Lexington

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Lexington for horse farm and estate content, game day content, venue fly-throughs and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Lexington, KY drone videographer page.

Horse farms and estates

Horse farms and estates around Lexington suit FPV brand films, flown only with the owner's approval and with horses kept calm and at a distance. Barns, tasting rooms and venues suit one-take fly-throughs. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Game days and events

Our crew flew live broadcast drone work for the T-Mobile 5G Range Show at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville. Kroger Field is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Lexington, KY live event drones.

Federal sites and Kentucky law

The federal medical prison in Lexington and the Blue Grass Army Depot in Madison County are federal no-drone areas around the clock. Kentucky law makes it a crime to fly a drone over power plants, refineries, rail yards, water plants, prisons, cell towers and other key infrastructure to harm or surveil them. FAA-compliant commercial flights are exempt, but we still get the owner's consent before filming any of those sites. Kentucky State Parks require a drone permit from the park manager, and commercial shoots need the Department of Parks' written consent.

Airspace

Blue Grass Airport, about 4 miles west of downtown, has Class C airspace, so many Lexington addresses need LAANC. We check every Lexington location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly FPV at a horse farm?

Yes, with the owner's approval. We keep horses calm and at a distance and plan each line with the farm team.

Can you fly at Kroger Field on event days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.

Do Kentucky State Parks allow drones?

Only with a permit from the park manager, and commercial shoots need the Department of Parks' written consent.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
