Virginia Beach, VA Drone Videographer and Operator

Oceanfront, resorts and events

The Oceanfront, Sandbridge, Chic's Beach and the bayfront suit resort, vacation rental and event films, filmed with the owner's or organizer's approval. For beach concerts and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones. For hotel lobbies and rentals an indoor one-take fly-through shows the space in one shot; see indoor fly-through tours. Our Virginia home base is in Lynchburg, so Virginia Beach shoots are planned by our Virginia crew rather than as a long-distance trip; see Lynchburg drone videography.

Navy bases

Federal no-drone areas cover the land of each military and security site around the clock. In Virginia Beach they include NAS Oceana, Dam Neck Annex and Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, and NALF Fentress sits next door in Chesapeake. Since July 2025, Virginia law makes an unauthorized drone flight over a military base, critical infrastructure, a utility or a federally regulated port facility a felony, so we stay off them unless the operator authorizes the flight. We plan every Oceanfront and north end shoot around these bases.

Parks and Virginia law

First Landing State Park and False Cape State Park follow the state park rule: Virginia state parks ban drones except commercial flights under a special use permit from the park office, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is federal land with its own rules, so we do not launch there without approval. Virginia lets localities regulate drone takeoff and landing only on their own property, so we launch from private property with the owner's approval or get the locality's permission. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

NAS Oceana has a control tower and military controlled airspace over much of the city, and Norfolk International is close by. We check every Virginia Beach location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly near NAS Oceana?

Not over the base. NAS Oceana, Dam Neck and Little Creek-Fort Story are federal no-drone areas, and nearby addresses sit in military controlled airspace that needs FAA authorization.

Can you film the Oceanfront from the air?

Often yes, with FAA authorization where needed, a launch site we have permission to use and care to keep beachgoers who have not agreed to be filmed out of frame.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Virginia Beach?

It depends on the address. NAS Oceana has a control tower and controlled airspace. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Can you fly drones in Virginia state parks?

Only for commercial work with a special use permit from the park office. Recreational drone flights are banned in Virginia state parks.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
