Vineyards, wedding venues, estates and farms across Albemarle County, plus the Downtown Mall, suit aerials, filmed with the owner's approval. Private landmarks such as Monticello are flown only with the property's permission. Our Virginia home base is in Lynchburg, so Charlottesville shoots are planned by our Virginia crew rather than as a long-distance trip; see Lynchburg drone videography.

UVA and Scott Stadium

Scott Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. UVA requires prior approval from its UAS Operations Manager for drone flights on University property, with requests due about two weeks ahead, and flights must stay clear of the UVA Medical Center heliport. Mountains, parks and Virginia law

Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway are National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. We film the mountains from permitted private land outside the parks. Rivanna Station in Albemarle County is a federal no-drone area. Since July 2025, Virginia law makes an unauthorized drone flight over a military base, critical infrastructure, a utility or a federally regulated port facility a felony, so we stay off them unless the operator authorizes the flight. Virginia state parks ban drones except commercial flights under a special use permit from the park office, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, about 7 miles north of downtown, has a control tower and controlled airspace. We check every Charlottesville location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Can you fly near Scott Stadium on event days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can you fly on the UVA Grounds?

Only with approval from the UVA UAS Operations Manager, requested about two weeks ahead, and never near the Medical Center heliport.

Can you fly in Shenandoah National Park?

No. Launching or landing a drone in a national park, including Shenandoah and the Blue Ridge Parkway, is prohibited without written approval. We film from private land nearby.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Charlottesville?

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
