Tempe
Mountain America Stadium and events
Mountain America Stadium, the former Sun Devil Stadium, is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Arizona law, as amended in 2026, also makes it a misdemeanor to fly a commercial drone within one mile of a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without the event's written consent, unless an exception such as a flight within FAA rules applies, so we get that consent for every show. We flew live drone feeds for TV and the video board for the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park; read the Truist Park case study. For concerts, festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones. Our nearest regional work is in Las Vegas, where we have flown EDC Las Vegas, the Sphere and the Las Vegas Grand Prix launch; see Las Vegas drone videography.
Papago Park and federal sites
The Papago Park Military Reservation, on the Phoenix side of Papago Park, and Goldwater Air National Guard Base at Sky Harbor are federal no-drone areas around the clock. We plan every north Tempe shoot around them.
Tempe Town Lake and Arizona law
Tempe Town Lake, the ASU campus, downtown Tempe and new communities across the East Valley suit brand, recruiting and real estate films, filmed with the owner's approval. Arizona law makes it a felony to photograph or loiter over a critical facility, such as a power plant, substation, water plant, dam, rail yard, prison or military site, in furtherance of a crime, and a misdemeanor to fly in violation of FAA rules or in the way of police, firefighters or emergency crews. We keep those sites out of the shot unless the owner asks us to film them. Arizona bars cities, towns and counties from passing their own drone rules, but general park, film and event permit rules still apply, so we check permits with the city and the organizer. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.
Airspace
Phoenix Sky Harbor sits just west of Tempe under Phoenix Class B airspace, and Chandler Municipal and Falcon Field have control towers, so most Tempe addresses need LAANC or FAA authorization. We check every Tempe location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly near Mountain America Stadium on game days?
Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.
Can you fly over concerts and games in Arizona?
Only with the event's written consent. Arizona law makes flying a commercial drone within one mile of a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event a misdemeanor without it, and FAA stadium restrictions still apply.
Can you fly over Tempe Town Lake?
Usually, with LAANC for Sky Harbor airspace, a legal launch spot and any city or event permit that applies. We check each launch spot before quoting.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in Tempe?
It depends on the address. Phoenix Class B airspace covers the city. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
