Tucson

Arizona Stadium and events

Arizona Stadium, listed by the FAA as Casino Del Sol Stadium, is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Arizona law, as amended in 2026, also makes it a misdemeanor to fly a commercial drone within one mile of a gated, ticketed music, sports or performing arts event without the event's written consent, unless an exception such as a flight within FAA rules applies, so we get that consent for every show. We fly live drone feeds to the Davis Wade Stadium video boards for Mississippi State football; read the video board case study. For festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Davis-Monthan and federal sites

Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Air Force Plant 44 and the Air National Guard base at Tucson International, the Army site at Marana and the federal prison complex in Tucson are federal no-drone areas around the clock. We plan every Tucson shoot around them.

Saguaro, the Catalinas and Arizona law

Saguaro National Park is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. Pusch Ridge Wilderness in the Santa Catalinas is designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land. Arizona law makes it a felony to photograph or loiter over a critical facility, such as a power plant, substation, water plant, dam, rail yard, prison or military site, in furtherance of a crime, and a misdemeanor to fly in violation of FAA rules or in the way of police, firefighters or emergency crews. We keep those sites out of the shot unless the owner asks us to film them. Arizona State Parks prohibits recreational drone use, and commercial flights need a filming permit approved by park management, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

Tucson International, about 6 miles south of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace, and Davis-Monthan and Ryan Field have controlled airspace too, so many addresses need LAANC. We check every Tucson location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs

Can you fly near Arizona Stadium on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Can you fly near Davis-Monthan AFB?

No. Davis-Monthan, Air Force Plant 44 and the Air National Guard base at the airport are federal no-drone areas, and nearby addresses sit in controlled airspace.

Can you fly over Saguaro National Park?

Not from National Park Service land without the superintendent's written approval. We film from private land nearby with the owner's approval.

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Tucson?

It depends on the address. Tucson International has a control tower and Class C airspace. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
