Colorado Springs
Military bases and restricted areas
Peterson and Schriever Space Force Bases, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson and the Bullseye auxiliary field are federal no-drone areas around the clock. Restricted areas R-2601 and R-2603 over Fort Carson and R-2602 near Colorado Springs start at the surface, and Falcon Stadium at the Academy is also on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We plan every Colorado Springs shoot around them.
Resorts, golf and events
Resorts, golf courses and venues around the city suit hospitality and event films with the owner's approval. We flew live broadcast drone work for the T-Mobile 5G Range Show at the 2024 PGA Championship; read the PGA Championship case study. For tournaments, festivals and games we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.
Garden of the Gods and Colorado law
City parks, trails and open spaces need written consent and a city film permit for drone use, and drones are prohibited in Garden of the Gods Park. Colorado has no statewide drone preemption law, so cities, counties, open space agencies and ski resorts set their own rules, and state law makes using a drone to obstruct police, firefighters or other first responders a crime. Colorado Parks and Wildlife bans drones in state parks except the designated model aircraft fields at Cherry Creek and Chatfield, and on state wildlife areas, so we ask the park about a special use permit well ahead of any other state park shoot. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.
Airspace
Colorado Springs Airport, about 6 miles southeast of downtown, has a control tower and Class C airspace, and the Academy's Davis Airfield and Butts Army Airfield at Fort Carson have their own towers, so many addresses need LAANC or FAA authorization. We check every Colorado Springs location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

No. Colorado Springs prohibits drone use in Garden of the Gods Park, and other city parks need written consent and a film permit.
Can you fly drones in Colorado state parks?
Only in the model aircraft fields at Cherry Creek and Chatfield State Parks, or with a special use permit from the park. Drones are also barred from state wildlife areas.
