Aspen, CO Drone Videographer and Operator

Ski areas

Aspen Skiing Company prohibits unauthorized drone use over its ski areas, including flights launched from outside its boundaries, and authorized flights can also need Forest Service and local approvals, so we fly Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Highlands and Buttermilk only with written permission. Wildfire and other hazard TFRs close the airspace to drones with little notice, so we check NOTAMs again on the day of every flight.

Homes, resorts and events

Aspen's homes, hotels and event venues suit real estate, hospitality and brand films, filmed with the owner's approval. Our crew has flown one-take interior fly-throughs of more than 15 Charleston-area hotels for Vive Media; see indoor fly-through tours. For brand launches, galas and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones. Our nearest regional work is in Las Vegas, where we have flown EDC Las Vegas, the Sphere and the Las Vegas Grand Prix launch; see Las Vegas drone videography.

Wilderness and Colorado law

The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in White River National Forest is designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land. Colorado has no statewide drone preemption law, so cities, counties, open space agencies and ski resorts set their own rules, and state law makes using a drone to obstruct police, firefighters or other first responders a crime. We keep neighbors and people on private property out of frame unless they agree to be filmed.

Airspace

Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, about 3 miles northwest of town, has a control tower and Class D airspace in tight mountain terrain, and commercial flights near it need FAA authorization. We check every Aspen location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
