Salt Lake City drone videography

We fly arena shows, stadium events, university campuses, construction progress and real estate along the Wasatch Front. For concerts and arena shows we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Class B airspace and military sites

Salt Lake City International sits under Class B airspace just west of downtown, and the Air National Guard base at the airport is a federal no-drone area. Hill Air Force Base to the north, Tooele Army Depot and Dugway Proving Ground to the west and several Army and National Guard sites in the valley are federal no-drone areas, closed from the ground to 400 feet around the clock. Hill, Dugway and Camp Williams also have restricted airspace from the ground up. We check every Salt Lake City location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

Stadiums and Utah law

Rice-Eccles Stadium is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. Utah law requires prior authorization to fly over critical infrastructure such as power, water and rail facilities, and flying into a wildfire flight restriction carries state penalties on top of FAA rules.

Parks and canyons

Utah State Parks require the park manager's written permission, carried while flying, and commercial work needs a special use permit. The canyons east of the city include designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land. Wildfire temporary flight restrictions can close large areas in summer and fall, and flying into one is illegal.

FAQs

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Salt Lake City?

It depends on the address. Downtown sits under Class B airspace for Salt Lake City International, and several military sites in the region are closed to drones. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Can you fly near Hill Air Force Base?

No. Hill is a federal no-drone area with restricted airspace around it. We keep shoots in Davis County well clear of the base.

Can you fly near Rice-Eccles Stadium on game days?

Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.

Do you need permission to fly in Utah state parks?

Yes. Utah State Parks require the park manager's written permission, and commercial work needs a special use permit.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
