Live event drones in Richmond
This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Richmond. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Richmond, VA drone videographer page, and for one-take fly-throughs see our Richmond, VA FPV drone pilot page. Our Virginia crew works from our second location; see Lynchburg, VA drone videography.
Riverfront festivals
Our crew flew aerials for the All Things Go Music Festival at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, and we bring the same planning to festivals on Brown's Island, the Canal Walk and the James River, flying only inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
Richmond Raceway
Richmond Raceway is on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We fly race weekend content only inside an approved production.
Federal sites and Virginia law
Federal no-drone areas near the city include Defense Supply Center Richmond, Fort Gregg-Adams and the federal prison complex in Petersburg. Since July 2025, Virginia law makes an unauthorized drone flight over a military base, critical infrastructure, a utility or a federally regulated port facility a felony, so we stay off them unless the operator authorizes the flight. Richmond National Battlefield Park is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited without the superintendent's written approval. Virginia state parks ban drones except commercial flights under a special use permit from the park office, so we apply well ahead of any state park shoot. Virginia lets localities regulate drone takeoff and landing only on their own property, so we launch from private property with the owner's approval or get the locality's permission.
Airspace
Richmond International, about 6 miles east of downtown, has a control tower and controlled airspace over much of the area, so many addresses need LAANC. We check every Richmond location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly at Richmond Raceway on event days?
Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events, unless we are part of the approved production.
Does Virginia law limit where drones can fly?
Yes. Since July 2025 an unauthorized flight over a military base, critical infrastructure, a utility or a regulated port facility is a felony, so we plan around them.
Can you fly at Richmond National Battlefield Park?
Not without the superintendent's written approval. It is National Park Service land, where launching or landing a drone is prohibited otherwise.
Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?
Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
