Live event drones in Aspen
This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Aspen. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Aspen, CO drone videographer page.
Brand launches, galas and festivals
Our crew flew sub-100-gram livestream drones for UNITY at the Sphere in Las Vegas, with the live feed shown on its immersive screen. Aspen's homes, hotels and event venues suit real estate, hospitality and brand films, filmed with the owner's approval. For brand launches, galas and festivals we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
Ski areas
Aspen Skiing Company prohibits unauthorized drone use over its ski areas, including flights launched from outside its boundaries, and authorized flights can also need Forest Service and local approvals, so we fly Aspen Mountain, Snowmass, Highlands and Buttermilk only with written permission. Wildfire and other hazard TFRs close the airspace to drones with little notice, so we check NOTAMs again on the day of every flight. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.
Wilderness, Colorado law and airspace
The Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in White River National Forest is designated wilderness, where the Forest Service does not allow drones to take off or land. Colorado has no statewide drone preemption law, so cities, counties, open space agencies and ski resorts set their own rules, and state law makes using a drone to obstruct police, firefighters or other first responders a crime. Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, about 3 miles northwest of town, has a control tower and Class D airspace in tight mountain terrain, and commercial flights near it need FAA authorization. We check every Aspen location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

FAQs
Can you fly drones at Aspen Snowmass ski areas?
Only with Aspen Skiing Company's written permission. It prohibits unauthorized drones over its ski areas, and authorized flights can also need Forest Service and local approvals.
Can you fly at the Maroon Bells?
Not from the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness, where drones may not take off or land. We launch from legal sites outside it.
Do you need FAA approval to fly in Aspen?
It depends on the address. Aspen-Pitkin County Airport has a control tower and Class D airspace. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.
Can you send a live drone feed to screens or a stream?
Yes. We send live drone video to LED screens, the livestream or a broadcast truck, and agree the format and cue points with your production team before show day.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
