Sioux Falls, SD FPV Drone Pilot and Operator

FPV drone pilot in Sioux Falls

We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Sioux Falls for arena shows, tournaments, festivals, venue fly-throughs and brand launches. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Sioux Falls, SD drone videographer page.

Arenas and venues

Our crew flies EDC Las Vegas as a three-pilot drone team, with over-the-crowd drones fed into the Hulu live stream. Inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center and other venues we fly small drones with the venue's approval. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

Tournaments and festivals

Tournaments and sports events in Sioux Falls are flown inside the production plan. Festivals are flown inside the organizer's production plan. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US. For event coverage see Sioux Falls, SD live event drones.

Airspace and state law

Sioux Falls Regional Airport, Joe Foss Field, has a control tower and Class D airspace north of downtown, and the South Dakota Air National Guard's fighter wing is based there. South Dakota law makes it a felony to fly over the grounds of a prison, jail or military facility without the administrator's authorization, and drones may not take off or land on controlled-access highways. Cities may also adopt their own drone ordinances, so we check local rules before each shoot. We check every Sioux Falls location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it. We confirm local permits, venue rules and airspace authorizations before every job.

FAQs

Can you fly FPV inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center?

Yes, with the owner's approval and a route agreed with staff. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules.

Can you fly FPV near the Air Guard base at the airport?

Not over it. South Dakota law makes flying over a military facility without authorization a felony.

Can you take off from a highway for a shoot?

No. South Dakota law bars drones from taking off or landing on controlled-access highways.

Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?

Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
