Pittsburgh
FPV drone pilot in Pittsburgh
We fly FPV and small cinewhoop drones in Pittsburgh for stadium and arena events, concerts, brand activations, venue fly-throughs and live feeds. FPV adds close, fast, continuous moves that a standard camera drone cannot get, flown by pilots who rehearse each line first. For general aerials, homes and events see our Pittsburgh, PA drone videographer page.
PPG Paints Arena and indoor venues
PPG Paints Arena downtown, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center and the city's hotels, theaters and music venues suit FPV with each venue's approval. Indoor flights at an arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours. See FPV drones for live broadcast, Indoor arena FPV drones and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
PNC Park, Acrisure Stadium and game days
Our crew flew live drone feeds for TV and the video board for the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, and we can bring that setup to a Pittsburgh venue with the team's approval. PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium are on the FAA stadium list, so the 3 nautical mile flight restriction applies from an hour before to an hour after covered events.
Airspace and federal sites
Pittsburgh International, about 12 miles northwest of downtown, has Class B airspace, and Allegheny County Airport, about 4 miles southeast, has its own control tower, so many Pittsburgh addresses need LAANC. The Pittsburgh Air National Guard Base and the Pittsburgh Air Reserve Station at Pittsburgh International are federal no-drone areas around the clock. We check every Pittsburgh location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
Pennsylvania drone law and parks
Pennsylvania law makes it an offense to use a drone to surveil someone in a private place, to put someone in reasonable fear of bodily injury or to deliver contraband, and since 2018 it has barred cities and towns from regulating drone operation. Rules for city-owned land, such as park regulations, still apply. Pennsylvania DCNR allows drones in state parks only at designated flying sites in six parks, including Benjamin Rush State Park in Philadelphia and Hillman State Park west of Pittsburgh, and commercial filming on DCNR land needs prior written authorization.

FAQs
Can Pittsburgh pass its own drone rules?
Not on drone operation. Pennsylvania has barred cities and towns from regulating drone operation since 2018, though rules for city-owned land such as parks still apply.
Where can you fly a drone in Pennsylvania state parks?
Only at designated flying sites in six parks, including Hillman State Park west of Pittsburgh, and commercial filming on DCNR land needs prior written authorization.
Can you fly near PNC Park on game days?
Not inside the FAA stadium flight restriction, which covers 3 nautical miles from an hour before to an hour after covered events. We schedule nearby shoots outside that window.
Can FPV footage go live to a stream or screens?
Yes. We send live FPV video to the stream, LED screens or a broadcast truck, and agree the format with your production team before the event.
What insurance do you carry?
Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
