Sacramento, CA Drone Videographer and Operator

Sacramento drone videography

We fly festivals, concerts, sports, campuses, construction progress and real estate across the Sacramento region. For festivals and concerts we film recaps, and for larger shows we send live drone feeds to the stream or screens; see live broadcast drones and concert and festival drones.

Airports and federal sites

Sacramento International sits under Class C airspace northwest of downtown, and Sacramento Executive and Mather have their own control towers. Folsom Dam, Beale Air Force Base to the north and Travis Air Force Base to the southwest are federal no-drone areas, closed from the ground to 400 feet around the clock. Beale also has security flight restrictions around it. We check every Sacramento location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.

State land, parks and privacy

Much of downtown is state property, including the Capitol grounds and Old Sacramento State Historic Park, so we confirm permission with the agency that manages each site. California State Parks allow drones unless a park has posted an order banning them, and commercial filming in a state park needs a State Parks permit through the California Film Commission, with drone paperwork filed ahead of the shoot. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area around the dam follows those rules too. California privacy law makes it an invasion of privacy to enter the airspace above someone's land without permission to capture private or family activity, so we keep homes, yards and people who have not agreed to be filmed out of frame.

Indoor and arena work

Golden 1 Center is an indoor arena, so drone work inside it is arranged with the venue and its event producer. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, so we fly one-take fly-throughs with the owner's approval; see indoor fly-through tours.

FAQs

Do you need FAA approval to fly in Sacramento?

It depends on the address. Downtown is close to Sacramento Executive, and the north side sits under Class C airspace for Sacramento International. We check every location on the FAA sectional and B4UFLY before quoting and file LAANC where it is needed.

Can you film Folsom Dam or Folsom Lake?

Not over the dam itself, which is a federal no-drone area. Folsom Lake State Recreation Area follows State Parks rules, so we confirm permits for any shoot there.

Can you fly over the Capitol?

Only with permission from the state agencies that manage the Capitol grounds and with FAA airspace clearance. We confirm both before quoting a Capitol shoot.

Do you fly inside Golden 1 Center?

Indoor drone work is arranged with the venue and the event producer. Fully enclosed indoor flights are generally outside FAA airspace rules, but the venue sets the safety plan.

What insurance do you carry?

Our standard policy is $10M liability, with optional coverage up to $25M when a venue, league or network requires it. Certificates naming your venue or production are issued before the shoot.
