Live event drones in Portland
This page is for event producers, promoters and venues planning a live event in Portland. We fly concerts, festivals, parades, arena shows, races and brand activations, with drone feeds sent live to screens, the stream or a broadcast truck, plus fast edits for social. For homes, tourism and general aerials see our Portland, OR drone videographer page.
Moda Center concerts
Our crew flew drones inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle to film Paramore's 2023 show, and Moda Center hosts concerts and arena events where we fly the same way with the venue's approval. Indoor flights at the arena need the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and the lighting crew, and we fly small, lightweight drones close to the action. See Live drone feeds for video boards and Concert and festival FPV drones across the US.
Festivals and city parks
Portland City Code 20.12.180 bars operating a drone in a city park, with exceptions that include permitted work for the City, emergency landings, City-designated areas and flights under a park permit issued under Chapter 20.08. Portland Parks and Recreation also requires a permit for commercial photography and film or video, so we launch from approved sites and apply for a park permit where a shoot needs one. Flying directly over an open crowd is only allowed when the drone and the operation meet FAA rules for flying over people, so otherwise we keep flight paths over the stage, closed areas and open lanes.
Airspace
Portland International sits under Class C airspace northeast of downtown, the Air National Guard base at the airport is closed to drones, and Hillsboro and Troutdale have their own control towers. We check every Portland location on the FAA sectional, B4UFLY and NOTAMs before quoting, and file LAANC or FAA authorization for any address that needs it.
Oregon drone law and parks
Oregon treats flying below 400 feet over critical infrastructure as a violation unless the operator is FAA-authorized or has the owner's consent, and property owners can sue over repeated low flights after notice. Under ORS 837.380, that property claim does not apply to commercial flights made under FAA authorization, though privacy claims still can. Oregon State Parks and the ocean shore are closed to drones except at designated drone operation sites or with a special use permit.

Only in limited cases. City Code 20.12.180 bars drones in parks except for permitted City work, emergencies, designated areas or flights under a park permit.
Can you fly at a concert inside Moda Center?
Only with the venue's approval and a flight plan agreed with production, security and lighting. We fly small, lightweight drones close to the action.

In some cases. ORS 837.380 allows a claim after a repeat flight following notice, but not against commercial flights made under FAA authorization.
